Beta was launched in June 1999 as a web-only music magazine. Headquartered in the island state of Singapore, Beta is written, designed and produced by a small team of young (and not so young) people who love and breathe music. "We're particularly into music that escapes mainstream ears not because we're nose-in-the-air snobs. It's just that independently-produced music is so much more compelling and diverse," says editor Lee Chung Horn. Eversince its early beginnings, Beta has written about Besnard Lakes, Ellen Allien, Erykah Badu, British Sea Power, Isolee, Jazzanova, The Olivia Tremor Control, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Azita, Luna, Manual, RJD2, Califone, Bright Eyes, Clinic, Maximo Park, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Smog, Tori Amos, Flaming Lips, Guided by Voices, Scannerfunk, Martin Rev, Bloc Party, Black Box Recorder, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Beauty Pill, Mum, Tom Rapp, Spokane, Richard Youngs, Jim O'Rourke, Elk City, Volebeats, Two Dollar Guitar, Bjork, Oxes, Giddy Motors, Koop, Sigur Ros, A Silver Mount Zion, The Clientele, Wolfie, Cinematic Orchestra, Basement Jaxx, Edith Frost, Pernice Brothers, Robbie Fulks, Sixtoo, Ron Sexsmith, Danielson Famile, Tara Jane O'Neil, Thievery Corporation, Godspeed You!
